Week 1 - HRV Review

Image
Inspiration                What is HRV? HRV or Heart rate variability is the measurement of the balance of the different systems within your body that speed up (stress hormones/sympathetic) or slow down (relaxation/parasympathetic) your heart rate. These two systems are called the sympathetic and  parasympathetic nervous systems respectively. Sympathetic & Parasympathetic systems There has been a research paper done by the Australian Journal of Applied and Basic Sciences that shows that there is a direct relationship between ones breathing and their heart rate, this phenomenon is called ' respiratory sinus arrhythmia '. Respiratory sinus arrhythmia is the natural variation in heart rate that occurs in sync with the phases of breathing. This is primarily influenced by the activity of the vagus nerve, a part of the parasympathetic nervous system. When you breathe in, the vagus nerve activity decreases slightly, allowing the heart rat...

Heart Rate Variability - Week 1 Iteration By Jack Duggan What is it? Heart-rate variability (HRV) is simple the measure of the variation in time between each heartbeat.  The variation is controlled by the autonomic nervous system (ANS), automatically which automatically our heart rate, blood pressure, breathing and digestion among other key bodily functions. The ANS is divided into 2 subsystems - The sympathetic nervous system     (Fight or Flight) - The parasympathetic nervous system     (Relaxation Response) The hypothalamus is a region of the brain that constantly processes information . The ANS provides signals to the hypothalamus , which instructs the rest of the body to either stimulate or relax different functions.  Trigger responses could be things like a poor nights sleep, a negative interaction with your boss, exciting news, or a nutritious, delicious meal. These are often temporary stimuli, which is handled, and dealt with, before life moves on. ...

Big Heart SETU  19/01/2023 Week One Iteration Overview The aim of the project is to try and form a visualization of HRV ( Heart Rate Variability ) using IoT devices and a cloud based application.  Some current ideas are using a heart beat sensor to feed into visual feedback, for example a light or display. The data will also be emitted back to a MQTT app using a MQTT broker. For initial phases we have been brainstorming ideas, which I will talk about later on. HRV - What is it? HRV is a measure of the variation in time between each heartbeat. . In simple terms, it's all the tiny differences in the time between each heartbeat. Imagine your heart as a drummer - it doesn't hit the drum in a perfect, mechanical rhythm. Instead, the time between each beat changes slightly between each beat.  Why is it important? A high HRV means that the time between your heartbeats changes a lot, which is usually a sign of good heart health and a strong ability to handle stress. On the other ...

Week 1: HRV Review

What is it? Heart rate variability (HRV) is the measure of the variation between heartbeats. It is controlled by your autonomic nervous system (ANS). This system operates automatically and regulate process such as the heart rate and other bodily functions that are are not under conscious control. This system is broken into two branches the flight or fight (which preparing the body for action and stress) and the rest + digest (which promotes relaxation + recovery). HRV is influenced by the ability to smoothly shift between these two branches.  High HRV: Larger difference between successive heartbeats - Indicates a more flexible and adaptable autonomic nervous system.  Low HRV: Smaller differences between successive heartbeats - Indicates a less flexible autonomic nervous system.                                                ...

Answering the questions about Heart Rate Variability  > What is it?  > What products are out there        -> Who uses these products  > Technologies involved in developing these products  > Feeback          -> Info to user                 -> LEDs, Vibrations                 -> Possible physicological reactions         What is it? Heart Rate Variability (HRV) is simply the measure of the variation between each heartbeat. This is controlled by your nervous system most notably your autonomic nerve system which controls aspects of your body such as heart rate, respiration, blood pressure, and digestion. The autonomic nerve system is also split up into 2 sections consisting of both your fight or flight responses as well as your relaxation responses. These responses/stimulations can be altered d...

#1 Jason getting breathing and heart rate variability in step OMG

Image
omg Measure Heartrate and Breathing get them in phase .. then the magic happens ... having breath and heart 180 degrees out of phase like driving a car engine at 50mph in first gear..as you bring phase closer to 0 degrees then you move up the gears..much more efficent transfer of oxegen into blood stream...omg Jason :-) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4104929/ other articles in this area https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/2443/dysregulation-of-autonomic-cardiac-control-by-traumatic-stress-and-anxiety#articles
